According to MustFly, the leader in manned drones, everything is “right on track” for manned drones to eliminate traditional taxis this year.
MustFly was started last year after the founders had a revolutionary idea that drones could start carrying people. “We’ve built drones to carry cameras, so it couldn’t be much different to carry people – just need to built them a bit larger.”
The 24-rotor MustFly drone flies for 5 minutes, with a 30 second reserve battery, and has a top speed of 30 mph. Safety features include a smoke alarm, flare gun, and life jackets for use in emergencies only. The system will cost around $500,000, but MustFly is taking pre-orders now, with a deposit of $20 to confirm serious buyers only.
The MustFly has completed several flights, but without any people just yet. “Unfortunately, we haven’t found any volunteers to try it yet, but I”m sure that’ll change as it becomes more reliable,” says the founder. “We’ve already completed a prototype, and once this thing hits production, it won’t be long before taxis and Ubers are a thing of the past. By the end of 2018, you’ll be able to travel around a city in style, get a pizza delivered by air, and never worry about traffic again.”
When asked about any regulatory hurdles, MustFly responded, “We figure it’s better to ask for forgiveness than permission in this case. We’ll worry about the consequences once these things are in the air. Innovation will not be stopped.”
